Peace and Dignity

What is it?

Peace and Dignity is Diverse Dollar’s cornerstone educational campaign dedicated to empowering BIPOC with fundamental knowledge on estate planning. The devastation of the pandemic shed a light on the inequalities experienced by people of color as they endured higher death rates and likelihood of illness. Providing education and resources in an easily accessible way ensures BIPOC are maintaining the generational wealth that has taken so many years and community effort to build. We believe everyone deserves to grieve with Peace & Dignity, and therefore we strive to ensure all are armed with key info to organize their estate and take control of their lives.

Built By Us, For Us

Conversations about finances can be difficult. Adding racial, and socioeconomic layers for context can make the convo even more uncomfortable. Finally, heavy emotional factors such as the loss of a loved one, make the topic nothing short of unbearable. Because of what’s at stake, the erasure of generational wealth, we must power through and have the conversations but we do so in a way that keeps the following in focus:

  1. Historical Context is Key: Understanding the oppressive history of systemic racism engrained in every financial topic is vital for eliminating the shame that often prevents the conversation from being had in the first place. Why? It’s simple. Statistics show BIPOC lagging behind across overall wealth, income and business success. However, data points alone fail to illustrate why these discrepancies exist. The conclusion can even be made that BIPOC are themselves at fault for the lag, causing unwarranted shame. History illuminates the systemic oppression driving the discrepancies by providing the context necessary to understand “the why.” Once that’s clear, BIPOC folx are less likely to feel shame towards their financial positions because they understand the bigger picture.
  2. Numbers Don’t Lie; Once You Understand the Data: Data, contextualized with history, illustrates where BIPOC currently stand on financial matters. We are committed to gathering various data points from reputable sources to ensure all of our points are grounded in fact. We leverage data to inform our audience as well as to set measurable goals for improvement within our communities.
  3. The More BIPOC Empowered, the Closer we are to Our Objective: Our objective is for every adult BIPOC individual to have an estate plan in place for themselves as well as one for their dependents. Eliminating shame by providing historical context, housing the conversation in data and facts, and doing so in an easy to understand and entertaining way is how we plan to get there.

Why Peace & Dignity?

In April 2020, CEO & Founder of Diverse Dollar, Karina Roa Dixon, lost her father suddenly due to Covid. In the years that followed, she was shocked at how difficult it was to organize his estate, especially while grieving. Karina has dedicated herself to documenting her process of sorting his estate and, alongside the help of experts, is working to educate and empower BIPOC communities. She hopes that when the inevitable happens, all families are able to grieve with Peace & Dignity.
